Lessons I learnt when I started my own Fashion brand

“This might be a stupid question…”

Said one of my recent 1:1 clients the other day,

And it got me thinking

When you are working with a professional on something you have never done before, IMO there is no such thing as a silly question,

But I get it, we’re kinda conditioned to act like we know it all – when really the only way we learn is when were questioning EVERYTHING, even things we know…

This is a big lesson I learnt when I started my own fashion brand,

It is ALWAYS the right time to ask for help, here’s why:

When I started my brand way back in 2017/18, I felt like I had all the tools,

✅ I knew how I wanted my collection to look

✅ I knew how to make a Tech Pack for the item of clothing I wanted to make

✅ I knew what fabric I was going to use & where I was getting it from

✅ And I knew who was making the product

What I didn’t know was how to start thinking like a business so that my fashion brand was set up for success FROM THE START (and not after 1 year of trying alone)

I can honestly say, If I had asked for help at the start of my venture, you know, things like creating a strong brand identity, working out my costings & sourcing more cost effective fabric & suppliers, I may have made profit a lot sooner! But hey! Here I am to tell the tale & help someone in the same position learn from me ??
